Argon18 Anti Matter - First impressions

The Argon 18 Anti Matter Has Landed at Cranks

There’s been a lot of talk lately about where gravel bikes are heading.

More tire clearance. More race focus. More integration. More speed.

And now Argon 18 has gone fully in on the idea with the new Anti Matter — a gravel bike built around one thing: going very, very fast off-road.

We’ve had the chance to spend some time with the launch material and first impressions, and honestly… this thing is wild.

At first glance it almost looks like a road bike that accidentally ended up on gravel tires. But the deeper you go, the more it makes sense. The Anti Matter is basically Argon 18 taking everything they’ve learned from aero road racing and applying it to modern gravel racing.

And yes — it’s properly aero.

But unlike some “aero gravel” bikes that end up feeling heavy or overbuilt, the Anti Matter still comes in seriously light. Argon claims a 950g frame and complete builds around 8.1kg depending on setup. That’s pretty nuts for a bike with clearance for up to 55mm tires.

What stood out most to us though is that the bike doesn’t seem designed around marketing buzzwords. It’s clearly designed around how gravel racing has evolved over the last few years:

  • Faster average speeds
  • More aggressive riding
  • Long hours in the wind
  • Riders caring about watts just as much as tire choice

The details are pretty interesting too.

The integrated ATTEN cockpit, custom Apidura race bags, dropped seat stays, oversized aero tubing and one-by-specific drivetrain setup all point toward one thing: efficiency.

Even the frame bag has been designed together with the frame rather than added afterwards.

That’s very much where high-end gravel is heading right now — treating the bike as a complete system rather than just a frame with random accessories attached.

And aesthetically? It absolutely looks the part.

The Iridium Silver version is probably the cleanest in our opinion, but the Sea Foam Neon colourway definitely won’t go unnoticed on a group ride.

Is it for everyone?

Definitely not.

If your ideal gravel ride is coffee stops, exploration and underbiking through the forest with friends, there are probably more relaxed bikes out there.

But if you’re the kind of rider who secretly turns every gravel ride into a race, likes staying low in the drops, and starts thinking about aero gains on open roads… then this bike makes a lot of sense.

We’re excited to have the Anti Matter at Cranks and even more excited to hear what people think once they see it in person.

Because photos really don’t explain how aggressive this thing actually looks.
